About
Regulation and standards.
Lex Aude is a firm of advocates in India. This page sets out the firm’s status, how it works on contracts governed by other law, who answers for the work, its relationship with Leela Works, and its standards on client information and conflicts.
Status
A firm of advocates in India.
Lex Aude’s partners are advocates enrolled with State Bar Councils in India, and the rules of the Bar Council of India bind the firm. Lex Aude is not a US law firm. No Lex Aude lawyer holds an admission to practise in the United States or in any other jurisdiction outside India, and the firm does not hold itself out as qualified to advise on the law of any such jurisdiction.
Governing law
We work under your counsel’s direction on other law.
We work in support of, and under the direction of, your own counsel qualified in the governing law, whether in your legal team or at an outside firm. Your counsel sets the positions, decides the legal questions, reviews our work and remains responsible for the legal advice to your business. We review, redline, track each round and propose positions within those positions, and we do not give independent advice on that law. The engagement letter names the counsel who directs the work on each governing law.
Responsibility
A partner answers for the work.
The responsible partner signs off every document, position and piece of advice before it leaves the firm. Lawyers prepare the work, and the technology they work with prepares nothing that a lawyer does not review.
Leela Works
Lex Aude and Leela Works.
Lex Aude and Leela Works are separate businesses with the same founders. Leela Works sells software and does not practise law. An engagement with one business does not require the other.
Confidentiality
Client information.
The firm uses client documents only for the client’s matters, and does not use them to train models. The engagement letter sets out the technology providers, hosting locations and retention periods for your matters, and the terms on which we process personal data.
Conflicts
Before every engagement.
We check each new engagement, and each new counterparty within it, against existing clients before accepting the work. Please do not send confidential documents until we confirm there is no conflict and agree the terms of engagement.
